Kansas City – 1893
Engraved and published by the Matthews-Northrup Company in 1893, these miniature sized maps are considered some of the most important maps of the late 1800s. Due to their small size, they were easily distributed and and were very affordable for the everyday person. Based in Buffalo, New York at the time of publication, George Matthews took over control of the firm “George E. Matthews & Co.” in 1888, and three years later merged it to become the “Matthews-Northrup” firm.
