1852 Jardine Piranha Set
These stunning hand colored plates come from Sir William Jardine's immense collection, The Naturalist Library from 1852. This particular set shows a variety of Piranha from British Guiana, now known as Guyana since its independence in 1966. The piranha is known as one of the most ferocious fish in the world; with razor sharp teeth, they are the top predator under the water's surface. This set of three includes the Serrasalmo piranha, and two plates of the Myletes pacu.
