Sinking of the Monitor
Known by a variety of names, from the War of Northern Aggression, the War to Make Men Free, to the War of the Rebellion, the Civil War was the bloodiest war in American history. In the 150 years since Robert Lee surrendered to Ulysses Grant at Appomattox Court House, academia has released a profuse amount of literature on the subject. Unlike those texts, Samuel Schmucker's "History of the Civil War" was released during the war. Schmucker described in detail the events that led up to the war, as well as the battles that occurred during it.
This book, released in 1867, two years after the Civil War, is the collection of both Schmucker's volumes into one. It features beautiful plates, printed by some of the most famous artists of the time.
